Visa Requirements

All students studying abroad will need a valid passport or travel document. Visa requirements are subject to frequent change. Please check with exchange coordinators or orientation class leaders for most recent requirements and forms.

AUSTRALIA

Current for Fall 2007

 

- Confirmation of Enrollment (COE) from UTS
- Passport
- Credit Card
- Proof of finances (~ $6,000)
- Medical exam results (if needed)
- Copies of transcripts
- OSHC premium paid (through UTS prior to  getting COE form)
- $329 US for Visa fee
- $46 US  for working visa (apply upon arrival)

 

* All amounts based on rate of exchange as of February 2007

Students apply online. While it is possible to apply through the mail, it is a longer, harder process. Application is 22 pages long. Twenty minutes online to fill out application. Takes about five days to process.

COE and passport needed before applying for visa. Insurance info is sent to UTS before COE is given. Medical exams might be necessary depending on individual situation. Australian govt. will tell you on-line or through mail that you need to complete this and give you the necessary forms.

Visa is electronic. No inserts or stickers in passport. It's just scanned on arrival.

AUSTRIA

- Copy of ticket or itinerary
- Proof of medical insurance
- Fed-Ex return envelope, prepaid**
- Original valid passport,
- One passport photo
- Letter from OSU
- Background check from local U.S. Police*
- Application form
- Copy of birth certificate
- Proof of funds 

- No visa fee

* Background does not include fingerprints. There is usually a small charge. Corvallis PD can do it. Cost is $5 to notorize it. Address is 180 5th St, bring photo id with you, and tell them it's for study abroad.

HONG KONG

NEW INFO!

City University is changing how it handles visa processes. Anita will be emailing you with links to info and forms.

 

- One passport photo (paste to form)
- Photocopy of passport
- Proof of finances ($5,000)
- Transcripts
- Application & Declaration form
- Request for visa sponsorship form
- Visa fee of 300 HKD (~40 US)*

All visa applications are mailed directly to Anita in Hong Kong, who then applies to Immigration for the exchange student's visa.

*The visa fee is paid via credit card. The application will ask you to provide necessary credit card information.

CZECH REPUBLIC

DENMARK

Current for Fall 2008

- Proof of finances ($4,150) *

- $137 money order **

Visa is called "residence permit"

* If submitting a bank statement, the account should be in your name.

**Cost of Fed-ex shipping of passport to home is included in visa fee

*** Aarhus completes the 2nd half of the application, and sends this to OSU. You will fill in the student portion of the application. This will complete the form.

GERMANY

Current for Spring term 2007

 

Take the following documents to Germany for visa:
- Two completed application forms
- Two completed declaration forms
- Two passport photos
- Valid passport
- Letter from Bad Mergentheim
- Proof of funds ($5,000)
- Visa fee (~ $60)
- Health Insurance Coverage
- Copy of birth certificate

U.S. Citizens can get their visa after they arrive in Germany. Axl will assist students.

NORWAY


Current for 2008

 

- 2 Photocopies of valid passport
- Two passport photos
- Application for a first-time "Residence Permit for Educational Purposes."
- Study Plan form
- Finance Plan form
- Proof of finances ($7,500)**
- Copy of birth certificate
- Letter from Kristiansand (w/proof of accomodation)
- Letter from OSU

- Money order for $200 Made out to Norwegian Consulate General

** Proof of Finances can be a combination of personal funds, scholarships, and financial aid. Documentation must be submitted for all sources of finances. If you will use personal funds, your documentation must be a bank statement for an account in your name--not your parents!
SWEDEN


Current for 2008

- Two passport photos
- Original valid passport
- Letter from Lund
- Photocopy of passport
- Proof of finances ($5,500 min.)
- Health insurance
- Completed application form #105031
- Original birth certificate or notorized copy**
- Letter from OSU
- Letter from you outlining plan of study ***

- Visa fee of $172 money order*

Visa is called a "residence permit for study."

*Cost of Fed-ex shipping of passport to home is included in visa fee.

** The Consulate keeps your birth certificate and documents. If you wish them returned to you, you need to include a letter with visa application asking for them back.

*** A study plan letter should explain your plan to return to OSU to complete your Bachelor's degree program and your expect arrival and departure dates from Sweden.

THAILAND

- Certified SAS envelope***
- Letter from Chulalongkorn
- Letter from OSU
- Proof of Finances ($500 min)

- Money order for $175*

* Money order made out to 'Royal Thai Consulate General'

** Don't apply earlier than 90 days before you expect to arrive in Thailand

*** Consulate recommends more secure form of postage to return your visa to you. They would prefer USPS Express Mail and NOT UPS or Fed Ex.
