Renew/Obtain passport. Must be valid for at least six months after student returns to U.S.; Official birth certificate needed for initial application. Applications availabe at the U.S Post Office or online.

Once accpeted into the program, register for orientation class.

Complete visa application and submit packet to consulate (addressed in class).

Register for classes at host school (addressed in class).

Reserve housing (addressed in class).

Complete forms required by International Ed and OSU (handed out and collected in class).
- Research best buy on airline tickets.

Purchase Eurail pass if needed (must be done before departing).

Obtain about five additional passport pictures for various ID's/paperwork.

Meet with advisor to plan class schedule for term AFTER study abroad (you register while abroad)

Obtain Euro dollars and/or currency of the country arriving in.

Obtain ATM card.

Obtain credit card for emergencies and confirm that your card will be accepted overseas.

Consider purchasing money belt/passport holder.

Make travel itinerary and leave copy with family/friends.

Make arrangements of when/how to contact family/friends while abroad.

Make copies of passport, health insurance card and additional picture ID and leave with family and advising office.

Learn location of nearest U.S. consulate of the country you will be in and register with them prior to departure.

Check travel advisories of countries you plan to visit.

Make sure all immunizations are current; get boosters as necessary; consider making an appointment with the travel nurse at Student Health Center. Schedule dental/optical check up.

Learn a few key phrases of the language of the country you will be staying in.
