Computer Support

The College of Business provides a host of computer services from computing labs to email and file storage areas. Every faculty and staff member associated with the College of Business receives an Active Directory account on the college's network, an Exchange email box, and file storage. As of Summer 2008, students will no longer be given College of Business accounts.  Although these services perform similar functions to the ONID (OSU Network ID) accounts, mailboxes, and storage areas provided by the university, they typically offer nicer features and support the College of Business's academic programs.

Please review the information included in the links below, as well as the other links on the left.

  • Email -- How to use the college's Exchange email system or the university's ONID email system, and how to forward email from one system to another.
  • File Storage -- How to store files or create web pages.
  • Putting syllabi on-line -- How to put your course syllabus where students can retrieve it easily.
  • Remote File Access -- How to reach the college's file server from off campus.
  • Enhanced Classroom Information -- Information about using computer consoles in classrooms.

Upgrading from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007

Upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2007 is a big change for many users, as Microsoft has rearranged many of the familiar features. Microsoft has made available a tutorial to assist with the transition from Office 2003 to Office 2007. In addition, the Helpdesk is available to assist with any issue that may occur. Office 2003 can open Office 2007 file formats with a compatibillity pack which can be downloaded here. All computers on the College of Business network should already have this compatibility pack installed.

  • Excel -- A Guide for Microsoft Excel 2007
  • Access -- A Guide for Microsoft Access 2007

Microsoft Developer's Network Academic Alliance Program:

The Microsoft Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) provides students and faculty in the College of Business to download Microsoft development software for free. The program does not cover the basic Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, or Power Point. Note: FrontPage is no longer covered. It does cover:

  • Microsoft Access, a database program
  • Microsoft Visio, a professional-level draw program
  • Recent versions of Microsoft Windows operating system, including Windows XP Professional and Vista Business
  • Nearly all development software, such as the entire Visual Studio suite of programs
  • Microsoft Project, a high powered project management program

This software is made available for educational use only. If you intend to use these programs for business or administrative purposes, you need to acquire the software in some other manner.

Each year the College of Business pays a fee to remain a member of the Microsoft Academic Alliance. The college qualifies for membership in the Alliance because of its Management Information Systems option. Please take full advantage of this program and enjoy. More information about this program can be found at the MSDN Academic Alliance Developer Center.

New COB students will receive an email message after the second week of the term with MSDNAA account information and instructions for downloading the software.

The MSDNAA Software Center is the site with login access to download software. Usernames for this site are your ONID email address for students, and your COB email address for faculty and staff. If you have forgotten or don't know your password simply click forgot password enter your ONID or COB email address and a new password will be sent to your account.
